1. A ‘divine hermaphrodite’ we see a half man / half woman with a gown marked in arcane symbols, she is holding an owl in one hand and a snake in the other. The alchemical symbol of the ‘divine hermaphrodite or ‘Rebis’, is a metaphor from the great work (the complete union of the opposite parts of the psyche).
2. A blue faun (half man / half goat) sits amongst some creeping floral climbers and blows on his double flute. In Greek culture, fauns are associated with Pan, the god of shepherds, mountain wilds, meadowlands, wooded groves, fertility, and rustic music.
3. The green lion devouring the sun is a classic alchemical symbol. To the naturalist alchemists, the green lion metaphor described the process whereby plants used the rays of the sun to facilitate their own growth— a process we now call photosynthesis. In contrast, on a human level when the green lion eats the sun this is a person on a spiritual path, the alchemist allows the green lion to eat them in order to be purified — to become spiritually golden.
4. A busty woman holds a burning candle. Le Monde (XXI) or The World is the 21st Major Arcana card in the tarot deck and the final card of the Major Arcana. The World can represent an ending to a cycle of life, a pause in life before the next big cycle beginning with the fool. It is an indicator of a major and inexorable change of tectonic breadth.
