RECLINING NUDE SILK SCARF
RECLINING NUDE SATIN SILK SCARF LIMITED EDITION of 50
I dream of painting and then I paint my dream. — Vincent van Gogh
FURTHER READING
This painting made in rich colours and pastels hues depicts a reclining nude in the vivid landscape of a dream. The fragments in the man’s mind scatter across the scene and reveal the backwash of his hidden thought.
The dreamer floats on a burnt orange island as he pokes himself in the eye and tries to awaken. His feet rest on a raging bull, the bulls body has melted across the bottom half of the image and it flows like a black river, whereupon an exotic blue female lay seductively bathing, she sucks on an ethereal stem and the bulls horn, in a somewhat Freudian manner points toward her crotch. A red dog wanders nonchalantly toward a scratchy, masked deviant, who looks more like a pineapple and in the top far-right corner, a fleshy-pink figure purses his lips as some starry, yellow flowers grow at his feet. Several other beings waft in and out of the scene such as a shadow-creature covered in eyeballs and a pair of floating eyes. The eyes have contracted pupils, they drift above the horizon and the phthalo sea. Could they belong to the dreamer— is it he who gazes... watching himself dream(?) When will he wake and what message will he return with?
This is a multilayered artwork and a complex piece full of Delphic ambiguity. It explores the private universe of perception and perhaps suggests that, life is but a dream.
