RAMBLIN’ MAN SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT
RAMBLIN’ MAN CLASSIC RAYON SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT LIMITED EDITION of 100
An expressive diptych. In one frame we have a ramblin’ man choking a snake… in the other, an upside-down skeleton still wearing the hat and boots he spent a lifetime in.
FURTHER READING
Both lonely windows are marked with the impression left by the friction ridges of a human finger... perhaps a culprit(?)... they evoke the scene of a crime and form a handmade border that ties the two paintings together.
Using a sad-old stub of a paintbrush (that lost all its bristles) the rational mind is put to sleep as raw impulse is laid bare and the hand is given the freedom to act with the bold danger and radical freedom of a troubled cowboy.
A scruffy, legless man, hovers above his favourite snakeskin boots and in his deep blue poncho he consumes the desolate, burnt orange and ochre space from head to toe. Wearing a wide-brimmed cowboy hat he has adorned with a small kookaburra feather and a string of stingray teeth; the ramblin’ man raises a sharpened knife in one hand, breeding the tension of an ominous gesture and grips the snakes neck with the other as both their eyes lock and pop-out of their heads. The snake’s body is covered in blotchy scales created using generous paint-daubs, as he retches he exposes pointy teeth and his tongue flickers and forks-out to point at the man’s bulging eyes.
Is the skeleton upside-down in the boot yard or on a vision quest... has he been in the sun too long... raised a ruckus in waking snakes or is he 6 feet under and in the bone orchard? Maybe he was a bunko artist or he’s been bushwhacked - or perhaps it is our dear ol’ ramblin’ man who lost grip of the snake and became buzzard bait - whatever the story - if he was above snakes... he’d surely tell us to shut or big bazoo.
