ODYSSEUS SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT
ODYSSEUS SATIN SILK SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT LIMITED EDITION of 100
Here we see a scene from Homer’s Odyssey, the fabled encounter between Odysseus and the Sirens. The image is painted in a soft teal and blue colour palette and created in a bold expressionist style, after Max Beckmann and Picasso.
FURTHER READING
The image is also accompanied by a line from Homer’s Odyssey: ‘’There is a time for many words, and there is also a time for sleep’.
What is the Siren’s song? It was said to be the song of the very mystery of the universe itself and that it renders life impossible for any mortal to go on with mere phenomenal work.
Odysseus didn’t want to be lured to his demise on the rocks, nor did he want to miss the Song of the Sirens. So the cunning Odysseus had his sailors put wax inside their ears and he lashed himself to the mast without waxing his own.
He was finally able to hear the Song of the Sirens and he went past the Sirens without succumbing to their song. He used his wisdom to go between a pair of opposites.
In this image, we see Odysseus portrayed as Picasso’s Minotaur. Picasso used the image of the minotaur as a reflection of his own artistic alter ego.
It can be said that The Odyssey is a book of initiations, and the first initiation is that of Odysseus himself into a proper relationship to the female power. If the female power can be recognised it can make possible a proper relationship, an androgynous relationship—in which the male and female meet as co- equals.
