SUSTAINABILITY

Endless Joy have teamed up with a small, humble factory in Bali with a big heart for the environment, one of the only dye manufacturers in Asia which that makes all its colourings entirely from nature.

With a small team of artisan and craftspeople, the company has mastered the use of 5 plants: Mango leaves, Umbrella leaves, Mahogany leaves, Indigofera leaves and Sappan wood Bark. With these colours, the team is able to blend a large variety of other hues.

The leaves are boiled for 6 hours to extract the right colour, but for Indigo, the blue tint can only be extracted by days of fermentation.

Fabric is soaked in warm water – 30 and 40◦C to open the fibres. The soaking lasts for 1 and 4 hours depending on the thickness of the fabric. This step is necessary to facilitate the dyeing process and for the colour to bond to the fabric.

The dyeing session lasts between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on the desired colour intensity. For light colours, 2 sessions are often enough, but it  may take up to 8 sessions to obtain darker colours. The next step is to fix the colour. The fixation process uses all natural ingredients such as limestone, vinegar and sea salt. Here again, the colours can be altered during fixing.

Our partner is fully committed to environmental responsibility and has its own plantation which supplies all the plants and leaves for dyeing the fabric and they only harvest them seasonally and sustainably.

They use plant waste to make compost. Leftover dye-water goes through biological filtration and is reused, causing no pollution and fabric scraps are recycled to make rugs and placemats.

100% Organic Silk.

For every garment sold Endless Joy will also plant 3 trees through our charity partner Eden Reforestation Projects.
