APOCALYPSE BLUE RAYON SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT
APOCALYPSE BLUE CLASSIC RAYON SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT LIMITED EDITION of 100
Based on the Cloisters Apocalypse manuscript, this painting depicts a horde of demons in a riot of colours, herding souls into the gaping mouths of hell.
FURTHER READING
The imagery of the Hell-mouth dates back to the early medieval era, a fearsome maw filled with the tortured damned. This concept likely emerged from Anglo-Saxon literature, where Hell was often depicted as the gaping mouth of a beast or the Devil himself.
The Hell-mouth imagery may also have roots in the pagan myth of the ‘Crack of Doom,’ where the mouth belongs to Fenrir, the wolf-monster slain by Vidar. This symbol finds its place in Anglo-Scandinavian art. As Viking populations assimilated into northern England, the Church found a way to blend pagan mythology with Christian imagery.
