ARCADIA BLUE LONG SLEEVE SHIRT
ARCADIA BLUE SATIN SILK LONG SLEEVE SHIRT LIMITED EDITION of 100
In this art brut ‘naive’ painting, after Henri Rousseau, a wild forest unfolds in earthy hues. Layered branches weave into a dense canopy, and every intricately detailed leaf reveals nature’s chaotic fractals.”
FURTHER READING
Amidst the foliage, a figure emerges, born from nature and adorned with antlers. Its piercing eyes cut through the darkness. Among the branches, a wolf, an owl, and a squirrel lurk. The wolf halts pensively, the owl gazes wildly, and the squirrel chews on an acorn.
Cernunnos, the Celtic ‘Horned One,’ is an archaic and powerful deity widely revered as the ‘lord of wild things.’ Often depicted as a bearded man with antlers, he mediated between humanity and nature, taming both predators and prey. He remains a mysterious deity, his original mythos lost to time.
Worshipped in Britain with traces in Ireland, Cernunnos faced Christian opposition due to his potent pagan influence and was labeled as the Antichrist in Christian iconography. Analogous to Pan and Silvanus in Greco-Roman lore, he is among fellow horned deities reigning over the wild.
Cernunnos’ roots may predate Celtic traditions, as the image of a horned therianthropic figure appears in neolithic cave art across Eurasia. For instance, ‘The Sorcerer,’ a primal shapeshifter found in Trois-Frères, France (circa 13,000 BC), sparks varied interpretations: considered as a great spirit, master of animals, or a shaman ensuring fruitful hunts.
